Historic Naval city where Francis Drake completed his game of bowls on Plymouth Hoe before facing the Spanish Armada in 1588 and also where the Pilgrim fathers set sail to the New World in 1620.
The Barbican area with its waterside bars, restaurants, art galleries and craft shops is well worth a visit. A gallery must in the Barbican is the Robert Lenkiewicz Gallery and if you enquire in the gallery it may be possible to arrange to visit his studio nearby. Easily accessible from the Barbican is the National Marine Aquarium. Here you will find a fascinating exhibition of marine life, especially good are the Shark, Seahorse and Deep Reef exhibits.
