THE
GENERAL WHO SAW THE STARS
About
three years ago we
had a retired American General (Infantry) staying with us. The General
was very good company but had an odd taste for breakfast basically fresh
orange juice and Vodka (Don't knock it until you try it). Another request
of the Generals was for a newspaper each day. We gave him a newspaper
only to here him say somewhat aggrieved after about an hours reading,
that it was yesterdays.
We gave
him a newspaper each day (always one day late) and he gradually relaxed
into the wonderful Cornish lifestyle.
Back to
the main plot. The really interesting thing was that with no street
lights whatsoever in the village and when there were no clouds he would
sit, and we would join him, at the front of the house gazing up at the
stars and satellites passing overhead. At this point the world could
have been a far happier place. Problems of famine, wars, religion, government
etc. seem to be easily resolved. Unfortunately, on waking the following
morning the solutions were forgotten.
So with no means of recording
these wonderful insights and solutions the world continues to suffer
from a multitude of problems. Well "that's a first!".
